When I knew I was going to go live in sub-Saharan Africa, I had bought in a used bookstore a book on survival. And it was one of those things where I read it largely for entertainment. Cause like who thinks they're going to need these particular skills in a whole book of survival situations.
And one, if not chapters and sections, was what to do if you're stranded in a plane crash. And I remember reading it and, like, knowing, well, obviously I'll never be stranded in a plane crash and need these skills, and then there I was, and so, quite frankly, I was shocked to know I knew what to do.
So when the search party found us, and then they had to land far away because there was no landing area near us, and they had to hike in, when they finally got to us, I remember the first words of the lead bush guide was your survivor skills are remarkable. And that was simply a matter that I had, almost by accident read a chapter on surviving a plane crash.
