Here is my tl;dr story, and I'd love to hear yours 🤗
It’s my first (and hope not the last) Substack post, and I’m here because I am tired of losing valuable conversations on LinkedIn after not being notified about comments people make!
Also, on LI, it looks like I’m trying to be the loudest elephant in the room by sharing stuff that I’m sure is valuable for people I care about without even knowing if they see what I share 😲
So, here we are!
My name is Yurii, and I’m a Community Builder!

I started my community journey nearly 8 years ago without even knowing that it’s called community building when I decided to host a meetup of the SEO forum in Kyiv.
I’ve shared the whole story with Kourosh here, Bri Leever here, and Francisco Opazo here… but joining the international Community World and understanding that I’m not alone and how many amazing community people are out there totally changed my life!
I can compare this with swimming in a bath for the whole of your life and then suddenly seeing the ocean!
So, exactly, I jumped right into it with my whole head, and I still feel like a little kid who is just impossible to take out of there 😁
And the more I’m in this ocean together with all those awesome community folks, the more I want to make the Community World and its inhabitants’ lives better!
That’s exactly why I love having Community Life conversations to see real humans behind the titles with all their ebbs and flows and listen to genuine life journies that allow us to connect on a deep human level!
It brings me so much joy, I just love it! 😍🤗
So, I will share their stories here, and I’ll also share what I learn from the people I meet and out of my life journey!

And here are some fun facts about me 😁
I love music! It's with me almost every minute of my life, and it changes very much depending on my mood, I even found that I can change my mood by listening to different music!
Also, I love reading books - very different - from fiction to non-fiction, and even fairy tales for kids! And I love reading them in the original language, and, as my wife recently noticed, I'm doing it so far in 4 languages: English, Ukrainian, Polish, and russian.
I learned the Japanese language in junior school and was rather good at it, and now, N years later, I'm coming back to learning it in Duolingo and even added Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Latin in addition!
I have a brown belt in Karate-do, which means that I know how to make scary moves and scream rather loudly 😅
I hate being perfect, and I always say that if you forgive me my imperfection, I'll forgive yours.
I was kinda connected with Jimmy Carter and Margaret Thatcher in two handshakes because of my grandfather's sister's husband.
I’ve never gone to the first grade because I was not accepted, however went straight to the second.
And my kid recently told me that even though I read a lot of books, I’m not getting smarter 😅
